Edith has reached the grand old age of 101 years old this month!

Here at Russell Court, we started autumn with a big celebration – our resident, Edith has reached the grand old age of 101 years old this month! Edith puts us all to shame, walking around with her frame, and knitting baby clothes and blankets. What an achievement to still be active and in such good health. We asked Edith what the secret is to a long life this was? This was her reply … “If I get to 102, I’ll let you know”. -Edith has had a full and active life enjoying her career in banking.  She retired at 55 and has enjoyed an extended retirement. She has lived at Russell Court for six years this year, and although we will be having a party and a cake to celebrate, we will leave the 101 candles, as we don’t want the fire bridge to visit us!

Our residents have had several days trips out this month. They have been to two garden centres – The Ash Garden Centre and Millbrook Garden Centre, plus a pub lunch planned for later this month. They have also had themed days at the home, including a beach party with fish and chips, a singer, and our Country & Western Party, with the staff dressing up to look the part. We have a coffee morning in aid of cancer research planned, with a few of our previous residents coming back to join in and see us all.

As we have some great knitters here at Russell Court, we have teamed up with a charity called “Making Miracles” a baby trauma and family bereavement care charity. The residents and staff will be knitting soft toys and baby clothes that will be sold at Making Miracles shop in Maidstone. The team from the charity will be joining us once a month. We have some new members of staff join our team:

Jackie is our new Clinical Lead. Jackie started her nursing career at Joyce Green Old Hospital aged 18, she later became a Staff Nurse and Unit Manager at her local nursing home where she worked for 27 years.

Krystel is our new Kitchen Manager. Krystel worked for 4 years at John Lewis where she was able to take part in the management apprenticeship program and learn a diverse set of skills, as well as health and safety. Karen is our new night Carer, Luke and Elizabeth are our new day carers, and Cath our bedmaker is now our receptionist.
